When looking for a color copier in Denver, many people seem to get stuck in the “paralysis by analysis” scenario. They call 3 or 4 copier dealers in the Denver area. Maybe the copier dealers represent 5 brands or so and then they have to compare the options and see what is the best for their particular needs. Should they buy the Canon Color Copier, the Xerox Color Copier, the HP Color MFP, the Toshiba Color Copier or the Kyocera Color Copier? It is difficult when one company is saying another companies copiers are bad and the circle continues…

At the end of the day, most copier companies build a decent copier, they just all have their own personalities. The Xerox WorkCentre 7425 is no different. The ideal spot for this color copier in Denver would be the following scenario…

Heavy Color coverage, most of which or a lot of which is 11 X 17 paper

Thick media — This copier is awesome with card stock!

Higher print volumes. It is a sturdy print engine

When it is not appropriate

Low print volumes

Spot color

No 11 X 17 paper needed

If you are looking for a color copier in Denver, please give us a call!

There are many copier manufacturers who are doing “direct sales” these days. There are associated benefits and detriments to purchasing from a manufacturer direct. First of all, what copiers can you buy direct? Xerox copiers, Lexmark copiers, HP copiers, Ricoh copiers, Canon copiers, Oce copiers, Toshiba copiers, Konica Minolta Copiers, the list gets endless. So why buy from a manufacturer? Conversely, what are disadvantages?

Advantages of buying a copier from a manufacturer:

When there is a lemon, they are able to swap out and usually do it quicker

Their set up engineers often are better at independent reps because they are just dealing with one brand rather than 4, they can learn them better

They tend to stock a few more parts

Disadvantages:

Customer service takes a hit in most cases, you get to call to India before you get a real service call going

They tend to lack loaner devices or are unwilling to deploy them

They are more rigid on contractual terms

They are often more expensive using “canned” pricing rather than using special pricing so they can beat the competition.

So, why do manufacturers want to sell direct at all? Profits. If they can make an extra $1,000 on a copier deal and not share, that can be appealing. The problem for them is if they get too aggressive selling direct, every reseller they work with will start switching their installed base with competition. HP has been experiencing this a lot more over the last few years, so they are losing some printer market share. Why? No one can make money and people usually like to work with someone local!

If you are looking for a copier in Denver, please give us a call!

Finding that perfect multi-function unit for the small office in Denver can be brutal. We have had customers asking for a good color copier under $1,000 and we have joked these copiers are delivered by unicorns and set up by gnomes. The Xerox Phaser 6180MFP/D is a surprising exception. It seems like this desktop copier is going to server Denver businesses well. The copier is 31 pages per minute in black and white and 20 pages per minute in color. The best part is that after the rebates, this copier can be as cheap as $550 or so!

One awesome thing about the Xerox Phaser 6180MFP/D is that it uses the same toner as the $6,000 to $7,000 color printers and copiers from Xerox use. Of course, it is in smaller yield since this is not a high volume machine, however, the Xerox Phaser 6180MFP/D is capable of producing prints which look like they came out of $6,000 or so printers!

If you have an old printer, you can trade it in for an additional $175 off making this desktop copier just over $500 which comes standard duplexing and pretty quick speeds.

Do you have a Ricoh copier or a Ricoh color copier in Denver? If so, it is human nature to look and see what is out there currently as you are buying a Ricoh copier in Denver. If you need a Ricoh copier, we can definately help you with some of the smaller units, and can refer you to other Denver copier companies if we can’t specifically take care of your needs.

Ricoh copiers are sold under the brand names of Savin and Lanier as well. It is good to understand this so you don’t get confused and reject a Savin or a Lanier dealer if you are wanting a Ricoh copier in Denver. Often this is the best way to get good competitive quotes with Ricoh copiers in Denver.

We sell a lot of the Ricoh products, so if you are looking for a Ricoh copier in Denver, please give us a call!

Many customers have gone with the Free Color Printers program from Xerox. The main reason is they don’t want to have to pay for the machine. Real Estate Agents seem to be the most interested in this program, but is it always a great deal? The short answer … No…

If you are considering the Free Color Printers program, the first thing you’ll want to do is watch the informative 5 minute presentation on this site… It goes over the importance of something called “coverage” in your color prints.

Let’s look at the Free Color Printer program to show you WHY Xerox is ok with doing it with you…

A Xerox Phaser 8560 printing 2,000 pages a month @ 20% Coverage would turn out like this against a Xerox Phaser 8860 doing the same amount of work…

So, essentially the “Free Color Printer” costs $2,782.80 more than if you had puchased the 8860 and purchased the consumables. Now, if you are a realtor or a church… then your “coverage” would be higher possibly doubling the Total cost of toner and maintenance line… We have some cost per print programs that are $.06 or less regardless of coverage and this would be far better than paying $.20 or $.30 per print under the “Free Color Printer” program.

The idea of getting a color printer for free is definately appealing. However, Xerox is a huge multi-national company for a reason. Giving you a printer is to their benefit more than yours. If you are considering their offering, please give us a call so that we can show you a better way to work with them. Same printer for a much lower cost… We got that for you.

Most of this year’s new products have been released, and Kyocera Mita have released their new TaskAlfa series of copiers. In this series there is the 40ppm TaskAlfa 400CI color copier. This is a robust color copier with a rated duty cycle of 160,000 impressions per month. (Keep in mind duty cycle and recommended workload are NOT equivelent terms… We’d recommend a maximum of 35,000 impressions per month on this copying machine.) The cost per print on this is super low with a toner only cost of $.029 per print. If you add maintenance and imaging units, then you are likely to see an all inclusive cost around $.06 per color page!

Key Features: One thing to be aware of is this copier does not produce ozone. (See ozone effects here). It comes standard with a dual scan document processor. What does this mean? Basically it means when you put a document in to scan, you do not have to watch it go in and out and in and out to scan the second side. It goes through in one pass.

Color Quality: The color quality is very good, but I don’t personally think it is quite as good as the Xerox WorkCentre 7345 quite yet. It is far better than the older CS 3232e or the 4035e’s are, but in my opinion have a little more distance to cover to get in the image quality class of the Xerox WorkCentre 7345.

If you are looking for a high production color copier which does very good color and is extremely reliable and won’t make your people sick with ozone gas, then this is a copier you really need to consider!

——————————————————————————–

I just got a message from a different copier rep here in town disputing some of the information here and since I like transparency, I thought I would include and address his objections…

“$.06 per page depending upon usage. Printing around 500 color copies per month is probably not going to get you this price. If you fall into the manufacturers specified recommended monthly volume (duty cycle) then you may get $.06 per page.”

This is sort of true, what he is saying, although I just did a quote yesterday for this device that was for 500 color pages a month and we were at $.062 per page. So, if you do a decent quantity of Mono prints, you can still get $.06 per print on the color (at least with us)… If you said I want to buy a $8,000 copier and print 20 pages a month of color and black and white… I’d think you were nuts and would suggest you go to Kinkos. Basically, if it can be cost justified to spend this much on a machine, you can get $.06 per print…

“30% less toner than what? This is highly subjective, and nearly impossible to prove unless you know the exact ink coverage that will be printed on every page.”

This was in reference to Kyocera’s claim that their TaskAlfa device uses 30% less toner than their previous models use (and also roughly 30% less than most competitors…) … Actually, this is not subjective and is quite simple. Manufacturers rate cartridge life at a combined 20% — This means 5% of the page is covered with Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Now when you add the 5% for the 4 colors you get 20% coverage (not it is possible because of this to get over 100% color coverage.) Now how a claim like this be made by a manufacturer? It’s actually quite simple. They are subject to ISO rules, in fact you will see this on Kyocera’s spec sheets…

This unit is manufactured according to ISO 9001 quality standards and ISO 14001 Environmental Impact Standards

What does this mean, well the ISO 9001 will assure items such as rated cartridge life, machine integrity (speed) are consistent. Now when the cartridge is rated for 28,000 pages it had gone through a process that is extremely consistent. Of course, there will be allowed tolerances, but there is a statistical average at work here… This is all assumed, so to say you can’t know for sure how much toner is being used is making the wrong set of assumptions. It is assuming an actual customer location rather than a scientific lab setting. The scientific lab is where ALL manufacturers make their yield declarations from. Why? Well, I have no idea what coverage you put on your pages and neither does the manufacturer.

So, to take this statement and show how a manufacturer would make such a claim. If it took 225g of toner in the last engine to print 25,000 pages and a new cartridge and engine technology made it so the same 25,000 pages could be printed with 157.5g of toner, the manufacturer would rightly say this engine uses 30% less toner. When you see that it uses 30% less toner in all your lab tests at different coverage levels, you can tell a customer the device indeed uses a lot less toner. This does not even necessarily mean it’ll be cheaper, it’s just a claim about the environmental impact of the device.

Selling Xerox products is interesting because Xerox does stuff from a Marketing perspective which is too obvious for most consumers to appreciate. In fact, most tend to get annoyed by they way they structure their offerings, but I am writing to let you know about a few of them. I am not going to defend Xerox or to condemn Xerox. You see, the way I look at this market, I ASSUME there will always be “tricks” to know. I am glad about this because it keeps me employed. If everything were super simple, I would not have a lot of value and you probably would not be looking at a blog like this to help you sift through all of the information.

What I would like to do is addeess some of the pricing structures as it relates to the Xerox product line specifically.

First, what the difference between the Xerox Phaser 8560MFP and the Xerox Phaser 8860MFP? Can I be honest here? I assume so since it’s my blog… the difference between the 8560 and the 8860 is simply a diffence in the size of ink blocks and pricing for those blocks and the price of the units themselves. The 8560 is about $2,000 and the wax winds up costing about $.11 at 20% coverage. If you don’t know what coverage really means, you should watch the video link on the side of this page!! The 8860 is about $4,000 and costs $.035 per page. Basically there is a $2,000 difference and a $.075 per color page price difference. At 26,000+ pages total (or just under 750 per month for 3 years)… you’d be better off buying an 8860. If you are printing 300 pages a month, buy a 8560 as it won’t make up the differential in costs.

The Xerox WorkCentre 7335 and the Xerox Phaser 7760 has the same thing happening. Again, the engine is the same, but the operational costs are a lot different. If you were to pay about $10,000 for the Xerox 7335 or $5,500 for the 7760, again it would seem that it would take forever to make up the difference… We are looking at about a cost of $.09 for the WorkCentre 7335 or $.14 for the Phaser 7760 (same coverage rules apply)… So the cross over where the 7335 makes more sense is 90,000 pages or 2,500 a month for 3 years.

There are more examples with Xerox and if you have questions, give me a call and we can go over your situation in detail.

For customers who want a high performance Color Copier, but don’t want to pay for the DocuCentre 242, The Xerox WorkCentre 7345 may be the perfect fit. The WorkCentre 7345 has it all. It can fax, Scan to network, scan to E mail, but most importantly, print and copy in stunning color. This little article is not designed to be a sales pitch … you can look at my article on the WorkCentre 4150 and see I am not always saying only good things about a product…

http://denvercopier.com/2008/10/xerox-phaser-4150-product-review/

This Xerox product has to be one of my favorites though. It moves along at 45 pages per minute in Black and White and 35 pages per minute in color. It is based on the Xerox Phaser 7760 engine and it does really high quality color for graphic design applications, has awesome color matching, and is easy to use. The sticker price is higher than some of the competitors… but I believe when you look at all the output, the service records and ease of use, you’ll see why this is the case. One of the huge advantages to this device is you can print tabloid for the cost of letter/legal paper. You aren’t charged 2 clicks for 2 clicks worth of toner.

For more information on this awesome copier you can get from us as your local Denver supplier, please visit:

The Xerox WorkCentre 4150 has been out for about a year now and I have only sold about three of them here in Denver. Why? Mainly, the interface is more difficult to deal with that comparable units. When you walk up to the device, often you are scatching your head a bit trying to figure out what you are supposed to do to get your job done. Once you learn how the machine works, it’s great, but there is that initial… “How do I do ___?”

From the engine standpoint, it has been doing a great job for our customers. At 45 pages a minute, it moves along quickly, especially for the price. I personally like it a little better than the HP Sidewinder products like the HP Laserjet 4345MFP.

http://www.laserprintercenter.com/LaserPrinters/HP_LaserJet_M4345_MFP_series_1039.htm

The Xerox WorkCentre 4150 is a good copier, especially for the price, but I like the Xerox WorkCentre 4260 as a better value.

http://www.laserprintercenter.com/LaserPrinters/Xerox_WorkCentre_4260_1212.htm

denvercopier.com rating for the 4150 — 3.5 Stars out of 5

In the printer version, graphic designers praise the 7760 for perfect color matching and excellent detail. In the WorkCentre 7335, you get this same quality plus a little higher gloss component to the printing. This copier version can also do scannable .pdf, copy, print, fax, scan to E mail or network (depending on configurations you purchase).

The interesting thing about the WorkCentre 7335 is that if you were to purchase the Phaser 7760 and print 3,000 color pages or more per month, you’d spend more money overall (equipment + Supplies + maintenance) than if you bought the higher priced WorkCentre 7335. How can this be? The cost of supplies on the Xerox 7335 is lower than the Xerox 7760 by about 30%. It is amazing how fast this adds up, especially for high coverage applications.

For the graphic designer who needs super high quality or the company who wants excellent color presentation, the Xerox 7335 stands above the crowd.
