If you are looking to buy a color copier, here are some basic tips that might be able to help you in your purchasing process:

• Make sure that if you do a lot of “Tabloid Copies” or 11 X 17 — The click is for 1 sheet rather than 2.  Some manufacturers will charge 2 clicks and others just one.
• Make sure if you do a lot of marketing or “high color coverage” copies there is no limitation on coverage or penalty if you exceed 40% color coverage.
• Make sure if you do not need tabloid capability, that you do not purchase it.
• If you do not need stapling, decline the feature

The Logical Copier Choice!

Denver: Xerox WorkCentre Copiers

If you are here in Denver and have been considering purchasing a color laser printer, there are some cases where a color copier might actually be a better deal.

Color laser printers seem to be a great fit when your print volume is relatively low (say, under 1,000 pages a month.)  Once the volume goes up, copiers become a better and better deal.

For example, we have a customer looking at a Xerox Phaser 7500 color printer and they are looking to do 2,000 color prints per month.  The Xerox website says that the printer costs about $.11 per print for color.  The problem is this is only 20% coverage.  20% coverage is roughly the amount of color on the page that you would see if you folded a standard 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper in half 3 times.  This means, that if the client chooses to purchase this printer, they could wind up paying $.66 per sheet for color or up to $1.28 per sheet for tabloid color (if the prints were full color).

Now, if they got a Xerox WorkCentre 7525, the color is about $.075 per print and it does not matter how much ink is on the page.  It is the same for tabloid printing.  So, if this customer is doing marketing, as this customer is, the difference in monthly supplies cost could be as large as $.075 X 2,000 = $150 for the WorkCentre 7525 to $1.28 X 2,000 = $2,560 for the Phaser 7500.  Of course this is a “worst case” scenario…  but the $4,000 difference is costs can often times be quickly recovered with the right supplies and service plan.

Defining Needs Helps Get the Right Denver Copier!

If you are in Denver and looking for a copier rental, just be aware there are some key factors you should know about as you search for a used copier.

Many companies looking for a short term copier rental would do just as well buying a copier for their limited use.  For example, if a customer wants to have a 30 page per minute copier, a Lexmark X264 can be purchased for under $400 and would work well for up to 3,000 pages a month.  Why spend a ton for a rental when you could have a copier to use for the next office opening or that is available if the project happens to last a little longer?

There are situations where a larger copier is needed, especially when more advanced features such as stapling, copying or tabloid capability.

Don't Get Exposed by a Copier Company

Lewan is the strongest here since they are owned by Xerox.  Pahoda and All Copy are in dealer programs and can take care of you, but they are not owned by a manufacturer.  Having this ownership does give Lewan a few advantages.

Cost –

Local Technicians –

Pahoda would be the worst of the 3 here as all of our technicians are Xerox technicians, which Lewan also has access to, but Lewan also has their own technicians.  So, I hate to admit it, but Lewan and All Copy are stronger in the maintenance of copiers than we are.  We do have next business day guaranteed response, but if you had to have someone there in an hour, Lewan and All Copy could send someone.  We’d have to offer a loaner.  Obviously, we work hard to ensure you are always up, but our goal is always to be fair and honest with our assessments.

Other Services -

Lewan offers a lot of the Xerox business process offerings and All Copy dabbles in managed networking as well.
